Denisse Franco Mrs. Kirkpatrick English 4, Period 6 18, April 2017 Single-sex Education Research Paper Many Americans go back and forth about whether an all boys (girls) school is a good idea to enroll their kids in. Therefore, many people are not well informed of the benefits or disadvantage in this type of education system (single-sex). This type of education includes the children that attend single sex schools are often brighter than those who attend regular schools with both sexes. Also they have an advantage of having a high self esteem because they arenââ¬â¢t worried about what the other sex thinks about them, they have high confidence in themselves. But there is a downfall, students may have to overcome an obstacle in the real worldâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦An example, if attending a same sex school, girls often tend to be much more worried about their looks rather than their school work and school related things. They may just get out of class and lose valuable teaching time to go to the restroom and make sure their hair is out of pl ace or that they donââ¬â¢t look horrendous. But seemingly parents often go about what is the best choice for their children when it comes to learning. As well, single-sex education is the separation of students based on their gender into separate classes. Segregation between races in unconstitutional therefore segregation between sexes should not be allowed in classrooms as well. It is also viewed that single sex education promotes gender stereotyping. Single-sex education also reduces the opportunity for boys and girls to work together. In the work world males and females are forced to work together therefore it is important for boys and girls to learn how to work together at a young age school. One of the major opposing points is that not all boys are masculine and not all girls are famine so by separating based on the norm does not help children who are not considered the norm. Single-sex education is discriminatory some studies have shown that a higher percentage of girls in a class can decrease disruptions and also helps generate better relationships between all students and teachers.
